And the verdict is...

5 inches (as mesured on the hood of my car)! However supposeldy, we got 7 inches in our town.

5 inches! And this was a couple of hours after the snow started melting...

And the snow princess is chillin' after all her work this weekend.

Speechless Sunday Spring Snow!

Snow What?!

The icky weather came back today :( so it was cold and gloomy out. We interviewed the two daycare prospects today... of course the one we like better doesn't mesh well with our work hours. Hence my need for a new job. Something with more traditional hours.

As for the providers, they're both in-home daycare providers. As a kid myself, I attended an in-home daycare for a while, so I like the familiarity of the concept. Not too bad. Of course, I am the best candidate to take care of my own child, but have to delegate the task while I am at work. We have a plan in place to spring me from having to work. I had toyed around with the idea of running an in-home daycare myself, but our house's floorplan just doesn't support such a venture.

Ok, off that tangent.

Yesterday my baby turned six weeks old. Time to go back to work, as I did not get a real maternity leave- just enough time to heal. Big whoop! My kid isn't ready to be dumped off with strangers just yet, but I digress.

I had my six-week postpartum checkup on Thursday. The doctor said I healed nicely and did the typical, lovely GYN checkup. I'll spare ya details there but it was pretty boring there. :)

We also picked up Miss Jessica's birth announcements today- yeah, several weeks late :D but better late than never, right? They look great! Pic of the pics to come soon.

And tonight... just when we thought it was over... the SNOW came back! This year, er, winter, has brought us a record of the second snowiest winter for DFW. In fact, when our own little snowflake (Jessica, of course) was a week old, we had our now-famous deluge (is that the right word?) of snow- about 10 or so inches on average of snowfall. Tonight's snowfall didn't reach near that for us, but it definitely brought back memories! But wait... didn't spring start- supposedly officially today? Yesterday was a warm and beautiful, winter day, but today- a cold and snowy spring day? Ironic. Only in Texas.

This is what our snow princess sent us at a week old.

And this is what she brought us tonight! A much lighter dusting but still beautiful.

Crazy Dream?

Those who follow me know that I have somewhat of a crafty side to myself. I bought Jessica's name in letters and painted them up and hung 'em up in her room for the world to see. On top of that, I have been looking for a way to make some dough from home. Dare I combine them? I could do letters to order (like those for Jessy) and/or even make jewelry or... the possibilities are endless! Thank you, Hobby Lobby, for the ideas! ;) I don't want to say too much right now, but there is brainstorming in progress.

More to come!

Tuesday Thoughts

I misplaced my camera for a few days. Think Jessica hid it from me on purpose. Hmmmmm... Silly girl. I mentioned it to Keith, though, and he pulled the thing right out from under the couch cushion. The same place where I had looked earlier! Hmmm... maybe Keith hid it from me instead! Or are the two of them in cahoots? Eh, let's move on to more interesting blurb.

Miss Jessica will turn six weeks on Friday. SIX WEEKS!! Where has the time gone? These days she is so much more alert and expressive it's not even funny. I think she is going to start cooing very soon- she has sort-of cooed at me a few times in the last few days. Last week she rolled over from belly to back... well today she went from back to side. I had put her in her bassinet to do a few things quickly and by the time I returned, she had rolled onto her right side. EEK! I predict in the next couple of weeks she will roll over completely- heck, at the rate she's going she'll be crawling in the next few months! My girl is growing up way too fast. Before we know it I will be talking about an upcoming sibling... Keith and I want at least two kids, so we'll see!

In other news, our daycare arrangements fell through for Jessica. For the past couple of weeks we have been intensely researching the options. However we are coming up dry. I have come to the conclusion that I will not be able to return to muy full-time job because of it. However, since we need the extra income, I will look for another job; hopefully with more traditional hours. It's all good. I'm also open to some work-at-home options, so long as they don't require too substantial of a $$ investment or alot of entertaining (my house isn't suitable for it, trust me). I have received invitations to Shaklee and Mary Kay, both of which I have seriously considered in the past; now I just have to research things a bit to see which suits me more. Only thing is, I don't wear alot of make-up- I'm lazy. I admit it. And do alot of ladies still purchase stuff that may be a little more expensive in this economy? I digress.

In the end, we are blessed with a happy home and beautiful, healthy daughter. DAUGHTER! And we are blessed with each other. We just have to have faith that all will work out with our efforts.

Tummy Time!

Well, since Miss Jessica turned one month, we got the official green light to start tummy time with her. We had basically been doing it informally when we hold her on our tummy and/or shoulders, of course here she usually tries to shimmy down our torsos. I'll have to get a pic sometime- as soon as I can catch her red-handed!

Her Snowiness is ready to issue orders.

And in our mini session tonight, I got this video of Jessica Nicole rolling over! EEP! Sorry the lighting is not very good (I took it on my digital camera), but I think it captures the moment very well!
Go JessyNicole!!

My, how time flies!

Jessica turned one month on Friday, officially at 11:19pm (CST). Where has the last month gone? JessyNicole had another checkup at the doc that day. She is doing well and growing like a weed!

Stats at birth: 8 lbs. 2 oz. 20.5 in. long. 7 lbs 10 oz. upon leaving the hospital.
Stats at 2 weeks: 8 lbs 10 oz. 20.75 in. long
Stats at 4 weeks: 9 lbs 12.5 oz, 21.5 in. long, 15 in. head circ!

She is still getting a mix of breasmilk and formula and doing very well on it.

Look at those beautiful, bright eyes!

I just can't get over this little hand!

Her daddy, however, is not doing so well- Friday night he became quite ill with what he thought was food poisoning (I wasn't convinced- was thinking along the lines of a virus). While he is somewhat better now, he's not 100%. Looks like a trip to the doctor is in our future tomorrow. :( As long as JessyNicole doesn't get sick it's all good. Send him some get-well vibes please!

My, how time flies! One month already!?

My little Jessica Nicole turns one month old today. That's right- one month ago today, I was in epidural heaven in L&D just waiting for the good word to start pushing her out, which was very close at this time. Once all that was said and done, I held a beautiful, 8 lbs 2 oz , 20.5 in. long little girl in my arms.

Today, that not-so-little girl has blossomed up to 9 lbs 12.5 oz, 21.5 in. long and has a 15-inch head! Yikes! I know it's just a matter of time before I'm posting here about her first real attempt at crawling. Lately she has been shimmying (is that a word?) up and down Daddy's and my chests when we hold her in the evenings.

She is becoming more alert these days, with the exception of today- she had her second Hep B shot. It stung her like h-e-double hockey sticks and seemed to make her sluggish today- Her Snowiness had a few choice words (which I will kindly omit here) about it, but once the pacifier was advised by mommy all was ok. She will get a few more shots next month at her two-month visit (but not all 7- mama's skeered of her having a bad reaction to that many viruses in her system. Let's not overload her!). Gotta think about the long term here- she'll be immune to these awful diseases!  Please note that this topic is not open to debate, though... we have made up our minds on this. :)

It's just so hard to believe that this is what she looked like exactly a month ago (OK, minus a day... I had NO energy for pictures right after she was born.. lol).

And this is Her Snowiness today:

Look at how much wider-open those eyes are today!

A new accessory!

So I had been dying to enter the vast group of mamas who enjoy babywearing. For those who don't know, babywearing is pretty much what the name implies- wearing your baby. There are TONS of ways to do it, frontwards, backwards (like a backpack), and about a million subcategories scatter from those two main categories.

The two carriers I have now are a Jeep and a Moby Wrap. I love them both! I can now hold Jessica safely while I walk around the house and even do mild housework with her! I felt just plain bad leaving her in either a seat or a bassinet all the time if I had to give my arms a break or do some housework. Now she can stay with me longer! YAY! Now I just need practice with them... ;)

Unfortunately I have neglected to get a pic of me using the Jeep, but enjoy this snapshot of me using the Moby- this was taken on Saturday night. (I know, I'm a bad blogger! lol)
